They get brought into your house when someone has been somewhere else they have been….motels and hotels were the places that used to be where you would get them. Now I’ve heard they can be in theaters and other high traffic places. They are hard to get rid of so IF you ever get them call a professional to get rid of them.

What do you think? Answer below.

By bringing it home in your clothing, luggage, etc., buying used furniture.

They basically hitch hike on luggage. They were brought in by international travelers, hence the prevalence in hotels.

Also people returning form overseas bring them home.

It was a real shocker because bed bugs had pretty much been eradicated in the US until recently.

Bed bugs have to carried into your home as they cannot fly. They can also come into the home from an adjacent apartment (they move through the walls. Bed bugs are somewhat limited in that they only move about 100 feet in each direction, so if you are in an apartment and you have bed bugs, there is 20% chance that they came from a next door neighbor.

Bringing home bed bugs is easier than you think. For example, if you buy a new mattress and it was transported in a truck that is carrying away peoples used mattresses, there is a small chance that a bed bug will move onto your new mattress. The same holds true for furniture.

Now let’s say the same truck the next day is used to ship new clothing. Now the clothing can transport the bed bugs from store to home.

The same holds true for luggage where an infested luggage could come in contact with your luggage.

The best approach is to educate yourself. It has nothing to do with cleanliness, and more do to with knowing how to protect yourself when traveling and knowing how to inspect every item that comes into the home.

It only takes one fertile female or a few tiny eggs to adhere to a suitcase, a backpack, or the bags and cases we all carry around with us. It can be local or international travel. Bedbugs can come from a hotel, even one of the nicer ones, a house where one of the kids spent the night, or visitors to your home who picked up a bedbug hitchhiker without realizing it.
