Question by johnston:
What is a sure fire way to get rid of bed bugs? Can’t afford a new mattress so that’s not an option.?

In the past few days, not sure if the weather is bringing them out, but I’ve had quite a few bug bites on my arms and legs. Help! I’ve been using itching cream, but I want to get to the source of the problem. Thanks in advance.

The hardest of Pests to get rid of. Very expensive professionally. If you can get some of a specific pestiside for bedbugs from a local home depo or Do It Yourself pesticide place…

You must close off that room. Nothing in or out till the pests are gone. Wash “all” clothing, linens, curtains, etc and do not put them back in the effected area till pests are gone. Use a flashlight to inspect all cracks, crevices, and furniture…all sides.

Using the pesticide (As per the INSTRUCTIONS) apply to the bed, underside of the bed, closet, dressers and drawers, inside and out, bottoms to. Inspect other close proximity areas. Repeat if bedbugs are found. All treatments may take a second application.

Shampoo carpet after application is deemed to be working.

Sorry but the best way is to remove the effected furniture. Never buy used bedding/mattresses.

Go on line to find out more about the bedbug, they are on the rise again. They come overseas through suitcases, shipped furniture, etc. They feed on the host blood, not good, I would recommend not living/sleeping in that room/area till the problem is resolved

you should try diatomaceous earth–fossilized remains of diatoms. Sprinkle it between your mattress & box spring and some under the sheets. The way it works is that as an insect or parasite brushes up against the powdered remains, microscopic abrasions are created on the insect’s exoskeleton causing it ultimately to dry up and die. It works on larvae and adults and they can’t become immune to it as they can to some pesticides. also adding a little DE to a pet’s food can help w/ internal parasite problems, so they say.

Are you sure they are bedbugs?

Start with finding out exactly what is biting you, then we can tell you how to get rid of it.

In addition to DE, you may want ot buy some sprya that will work as a contact killer. Ones like Kleen-Free (www.Kleen-Free.com) do similar things as DE in that they cause the bedbug to molt if it is sprayed on them and that causes them to die.

Remember that kleen-Free is only a contact spray so it will only kill what it touches so i woudl use it in conjunction with other methods but it may be good if the ones you have are becoming chemical resistent.
