How do you get rid of a house full of bed bugs?

in Bedbug Questions

Question by gigi:
How do you get rid of a house full of bed bugs?

I’m visiting a friend, and I keep waking with bites on my arms, legs, wrists, legs, etc. Even my scalp itches. I know this is a big problem on the East Coast due to the materials brought in from foreign countries that don’t have the restrictions the USA does. How do I deal with the itching? I have to be here another 3 weeks.

About all you can do is take an over-the-counter antihistamine. Try Claritin or Zyrtec (or the generics). If it’s really bad, you can take Benadryl (it can make you sleepy, so be careful when you take it). You may also use an anti-itch cream or spray (Benadryl spray is great) to help with the bites.

Remember that when you go home, you will most likely be taking them with you. Leave your clothes & other stuff outside. We dealt with this by putting everything in the car and setting a bug bomb off in the car.

Why would you stay there. You should leave right away. If you decide to stay there then help your friend get rid of them.

Are they biting everyone or just you. If everyone these cures will work; if just you it is probably a spider and washing the sheets & mattress pad will do it. You may also want to vacuum the bed.

I’ve been fortunate enough not to have bed bugs in my home, but considering that bed bugs are making a comeback here in the United States, it might serve you well to learn how to prevent a beg bug infestation and how to get rid of bed bugs if you do find them in your home. Cimex lectularius, the scientific name for bed bugs, are found in most parts of the world, but are generally native to the northern areas. Their southern cousin, C. hemipterus, is usually found in warm, tropical areas, but have been found in places as far from the equator as Florida. Not to be mistaken for the dust mite, bed bugs are big enough to be seen, with a flat body and a reddish brown color. They feed on their hosts’ blood at night and move quickly, hiding in cracks or crevices in and around the area where the host sleeps. Plainly speaking bed bugs are gross, and if you have them you’ll know. So, here is some advice about how to keep your home bed bug free.
