Question by Flamingmist:
I have bed bugs. Bug bombs don’t work. What’s the cheapest route to getting rid of them?

I just don’t have the hundreds of dollars it takes to get an exterminator. How can I get rid of them for cheap and for good?
I just moved in here the weekend before new year’s day. I didn’t start getting bites until two nights ago.

Wash all your bedding in HOT water with bleach. Then vacuum your mattress over and over. Then buy a good spray.

The only other route for you to persue would be to dispose of the entire matteress and box spring set .You may want to try a pesticide called sevin dust it kills fleas cock roaches flies spiders and such and is non toxic to humans unless it is ingested by mouth or through a cut in the skin. That would be your only other option other than disposing of the bedding.

Wash all of your beddings and pillow cases with warm water and soap then dry them under the sun. Change your beddings weekly.

rent a steam cleaner from wal-mart or something, use very HOT water, go over mattress several times, vaccum everything (even those little buttons and stuff) several times, and/or wrap mattress in plastic (even cheap painter kind) . bug sprays wont work, think of them like cockroachs, they are immune to most sprays. or buy a new bed.

I don’t mean to be the devil’s advocate entomologist, but you should hire a company. Bed bugs are very, very difficult to treat because of their cryptic behavior. Also, resistance has been reported across the country.

Steam works very well, but you will have find every bug. Which may be impossible. Insecticides should be used and be used by a reputable company that stands by their work.

One last thing….just because they are “bed bugs”, it doesn’t mean they are all in your bed. Look everywhere.
