What to do about bed bugs in the carpet?

Question by Summer:
What to do about bed bugs in the carpet?

I’m pretty sure I have bed-bugs in the carpet of my bedroom. I always spot smallish, black bugs with a reddish tone on my carpet or on piles of clothes on the ground, and i occasionally get small, red bug bites on my arms and feet (might not me from the bugs, but I’m pretty sure they are!) How do I rid my bedroom of these vermin? It’s pretty terrifying.

I work for a pest control company, and Bed Bugs are really hard to get rid of. You can, however, minimize them if you can not afford a $ 400-$ 1000 service (depending on size of apt/home).

First, put all your clothes from your dresser and closet into large black plastic bags and put them in the kitchen. Seal them tight. Then, do the same for any sheets, curtains, etc. After that, vaccumm the carpet, and make sure to move the furniture around and vaccuum behind night stands, and even the baseboards and behind hanging pictures. Also, vaccuum your bed – take the mattress off and vaccum the box spring, all sides. try to get down into the crevices of the box spring and mattress. Also, vaccuum the bed fram, headboard, foot board, etc. Vaccuum inside the closet and dressers.

Take all those clothes and linens and take them to the dryer and all you need to do is out them on high heat for 10 minutes – no need to wash everything – it’s the heat that kills the Bed Bugs.

You may want to do the same for the living room, couch, side tables, carpet in that room if you spend a lot of time in there.

This will not guarantee them to go away, especially since being you are not a professional, you do not know exactly what you are looking for and which areas to concentrate on, but it will minimize the effects. Also, you may have to do it more than once.

Also, they might not be bed bugs – they could be fleas, some kind of beatle, who knows.

Good luck!
