Question by Aster: How does a bed/home become infested with bedbugs?
Bedbugs have had a lot of attention lately. I’ve never seen one or experienced them, but they seem awful. What causes them? How are they prevented?

Usually from the outside. The bugs can jump from one person to another. This is problematic in the schools.

Bed bugs are NOT body lice. They absolutely cannot be spread from person to person. They’re bigger than lice and don’t live on the body, they bite in your sleep. During the day they “hide” under carpeting, rugs, furniture, etc.

Traveling is how people become exposed to bedbugs. Even if you’ve never been out of the country, if you stay in a hotel room where someone has they can get into your luggage and later on your home. They can be in any hotel, cheap or 5 star.

To avoid bedbug infestation in your home, when you travel keep your suitcases off the ground in the hotel room. When you get back home, keep the luggage in the garage or on the porch for a couple days. After you’ve emptied your clothing from the luggage, store it in a hall closet or attic when you’re not using it.
