Do leather couches/sofas/loveseats also have bedbugs/couch-bugs?

Question by Mona:
Do leather couches/sofas/loveseats also have bedbugs/couch-bugs?

I was exploring used sofas/couches/loveseats on Craigslist and was notified by my friends about bedbugs. Having gone through them when in school I don’t want to take even 1% risk. But I live in a city not close to any school/university and there’s no student community here and I plan to buy stuff only from good (read “rich”) houses ( though this doesn’t qualify for being bug-free )

So now I want to know if leather couches/sofas too can be inhabited by these bugs just as regular microfiber/upholstery-based ones?
I do understand that rich homes can also have bed-bugs but what I actually wanted to ask is: there are some deals that are outright cheap (like $ 50 a couch) and then there are some higher-end deals (like $ 350 for a couch or may be $ 500 for a pair) – now if one’s furniture is indeed bug-infested, one wouldn’t normally quote such higher-end deals, right? Or am I just being stupid 🙁 I have been through bed bugs and have read about them on the Internet and can possibly identify bug-ridden stuff (like looking into backside of covers, crevices, look for blood/fecal black/brown marks and that smell … I can’t forget that yucky pesty smell of these parasites)

I think you subject yourself to a 50/50 chance of getting bed bugs in any used furniture. And, bed bugs have no social status so they do not care about the income of their hosts.

Your best bet is to google BED BUGS and educate yourself on what to look for to detect an infestation. Once you know what you are looking for, then you can always have the knowledge and have the ability to check for yourself on these matters.
