Question by theartofsong:
How to avoid bedbugs when you travel?

i’m thinking of taking a trip to the mountains in april. how can i avoid bringing home bedbugs?
ok responding tot eh first couple of “answers”, bedbugs get into luggage, clothes, furniture and electronics, but don’t get on people like lice so washing doesn’t help.
bedbugs are reported more actually among quality hotels because they are spread from one hotel to the next by affluent people who travel frequently. the bugs get in there luggage and lay eggs at their various stops, and cleanliness is irrelevant. tall they need are some dark sports to hide in like box springs, luggage seems, even alarm clock parts, and some people to feed off of.

Stay in a quality hotel, and use good hygiene.

I’ve just come home after traveling in Asia and luckily managed to avoid bed bugs after staying in 20 different hotels, ranging from poor standard to luxury. And you’re correct in not assuming that good quality hotels are less likely to have bugs. They tend to live in wood so avoid hotel rooms with lots of wood paneling and furniture. An obvious sign is small blood stains on the walls where people have squashed them in the night. I always inspect the room and beds before staying and rejected rooms which had these signs. I did stay in a room which was suspect so I covered my body in lavender oil and didn’t get bitten.
