Don’t let the bedbugs bite….?

Question by CassandraM:
Don’t let the bedbugs bite….?

I’m hearing from more resources that bedbugs are becoming a major issue again. (They were largely eliminated in developed countries following WWII) According to this month’s issue of The Atlantic, bedbugs can be extremely difficult to locate, can live up to a year without feeding, and are almost impossible to eradicate since the banning of DDT and other harsh pesticides. A single female that survives extermination can rapidly reinfest the space….so even where a multi-pronged approach is used (which incorporates fumigation, industrial heaters, mega vacuum cleaners and a substance called Cryonite)…bedbugs can be an ongoing issue! That seems alarming, when you consider how rapidly they can spread and be inadvertently carried from one place to the next…(in suitcases. clothing…whatever)!

It makes it sound like the issue isn’t whether a space is infected…but rather how long before it inevitably becomes infected! Especially in the public places….

Although the article mentioned the obvious “hot spots” – hotels, apartment buildings, or any closet with excess clutter…..shouldn’t this also impact what we think about dry cleaners and consignment shops and goodwill stores?

I can avoid a dry cleaner or a consignment shop, but if I have to travel frequently for work related purposes, how do I protect myself and my family if I occupy a hotel that has been infected? Unfortunately the article didn’t address how consumers can protect themselves….it was written more from the perspective of the challenges that exterminators face in dealing with this problem.

Hi

You can buy a small ionizer,I prefer Alpine or Con Air. You put it under the top sheet once a week or once every 2 weeks.

Works amazingly well. Good in a bigger unit for the whole house also.

I use one for the whole house.
It is not only an ionizer and ozone improvement,It also emits a low frequency AM wave. This causes the little pieces of dust particles in the air to form large clumps together and fall to the floor instead of the air.
(Like the dust you see float in mid air looking at a sunbeam coming through your window.)
The radio wave penetrates through your walls also.So dust from bug skeletons and other sources ,also drop to the floor within the wall.

.

Yes, I have been hearing about the rise of bed bugs again too since the elimination of certain pesticides ( which I think it is good not to use those pesticides in the same way, but I don’t want the bed bugs either! )

I have an article here that I think is very informative and from a reliable source ( Purdue University ) it explains some things about bedbugs such as how to detect them, how to try to avoid them, but unfortunately if you have an infestation the only recommended advice is to seek professional help from an exterminator that has the equipment and and pesticides to kill them.

I hope you enjoy this article it is a creepy subject huh?
