Fleas or bedbugs are they in my home?

in Bedbug Questions

Question by little_screamer666:
Fleas or bedbugs are they in my home?

My dog itches right by his collar and chases his butt rather often, I have bites on the back of my leg and one on my face. Ive looked for bedbugs and havent found anything. I do find small white flakes on the bed along with black specks. My puppy is fairly young born last june. Does he have fleas or do I have bedbugs? Is there a difference?
I have a futton with a foam rubber add on
I need good information thanks~ Also i looked under my bed (under foam) to look for traces i havent found any. Its hard to check for fleas because my dog is a puppy and is constantly moving what can i do?
I have not gotten bitten anymore. Could the white bits be skin? The black specks are more abundant then the white bits. I found a little something in my bed. It looks kinda like a scab with lines on it. the underside looks kinda more like a scab is it a dead bedbug?

Yes it sounds like you have both. to answer the question ” is there a difference” , yes there is a big difference. fleas are small and black and leave traces like those black specks you found. bed bugs are much larger and white, and they are not as easy to find as fleas because they live INSIDE the furniture, in this case, your futon. And it sounds like you will want to get rid of them quick if they are leaving red spots on your body because that meens u ether have allot of bed bugs or you may even be allergic to them. The fleas can be killed with a simple store bought flea bomb but the bed bugs may be harder, the easiest thing would be to replace your futon or at least wash everything that you sleep with once a week until you notice the red spots are fading, and keep everything very clean until the problem has gone away because they both spread very quickly throughout the house.
