Do cold tempatures kill bed bugs?

in Bedbug Questions

Question by Chase’s Mommy:
Do cold tempatures kill bed bugs?

I will be going away for about a week, and recently have noticed bed bug bites. We had bed bugs at our last house and just moved about 3 months ago. So unfortunately, we must have brought them along. Anyways, I have heard that bed bugs cannot survive temperatures under 32* for more then a few hours/days. I was wondering if keeping my bedroom window open, while making sure the draft does not effect the whole house, for the week that I am away, will that diminish them?

Cold temperatures must be maintained for several days and cannot be above 32 degrees during that time. Your water pipes would freeze and burst.
The cold method is usually recommended for when you have pillows or small things that can’t be washed, but are small enough to fit inside a freezer.

Cold temperatures will make the bedbugs go dormant.
No, it will not kill them.
This can help.

they would have to be exposed to freezing temperatures for several days …I would think by just cooling your room they would venture away from the cold infesting new areas and will return when the temperature returns to normal.
