Question by Sophra:
I have these awful small, stinging bites on my neck. How do I soothe the pain/itching?

I discovered these bites 2-3 days ago. I know they are not mosquito bites. I checked for bedbugs and unless there’s a lone bug, they’re not an issue. The bites are in a couple of clusters (total 10-12 bites) on my neck and at first were just irritating and not that itchy. They’ve gotten worse in itchiness and now sting like crazy. Today I noticed small blisters developing on a couple of the bites and on others a small dark spot that’s not a scab. I’m taking Zyrtec by day and Benadryl at night, plus hydrocortisone cream by doctor’s suggestion but am still in agony. Anyone know what is going on and how to help?!?!
Again, I’ve already BEEN to the doctor. Everyone else: thanks so much for the suggestions, keep ’em coming!

In addition to what you are doing, you might try a cool soothing cloth. I also have found that Johnson & Johnson First Aid Cream really helps heal rashes, sores and burns very quickly and also relieves small pain and itching. Put some on the area when you go to bed, and I think you will find improvement by morning. It is als possible you need a larger dose of Benadryl…check the package for that info…and take it when you go to bed, it will help you sleep!

A dab of diluted ammonia will help relieve stinging. 3.2% ammonia solution is a good start.

Are they flea bites perhaps? If you live in a high humidity area, it’s hard to keep yourself from getting bitten. I would sterilize everything in your house. Including the mattress pad and sheets etc. The blisters might be from you scratching and irritating the bite itself. Use Benadryl Cream on your bites during the day. I would also talk with your doctor and tell him/her that you’re not getting any better.

have you tried the benadryl liquid instead of pill form and also there is a topical benadryl that is a little stronger than hydrocortizone. It helps me when I get a bug bite like a bee sting or something. If they don’t get better see your doctor asap could be a spider bites

Sounds like could be sand-fly bites, or something similar. The itch/stinging is caused by acid content, so you must neutralise the acid. Dampen the area, then rub in bicarbonate of soda (available freely from supermarkets). Really rub it in – even if it stings. The result is not instant, but in 24 hours it should be vastly improved.
