What is this tiny brown insect that is all over our home?

Question by Rachel:
What is this tiny brown insect that is all over our home?

We just moved into a brand new home and have tiny (barely visible to the eye) light brown insects everywhere– furniture, walls, tile floors, bed, etc. When I put my finger next to it, it hops approximately 1 inch. I know they’re not fleas because we have lived with them for a month and have zero bites. I have researched online for termites, fleas, bedbugs, and every other insect infestation known to man, and none of these seem to match what we have. (We live in Guatemala.) Any ideas?

You should call the local bug exterminator and ask them, or ask a neighbor, or ask the landlord to find out what kind of bug it is. If you call a pest/bug exterminator and describe the bug they may be able to help you.

it sounds like a springtail. harmless but numerous! it helps to keep the windows/doors closed and the air conditioning on.
