You have to kill them in her room, to prevent them from moving to yours. Call an exterminator, before it gets out of hand.

Get some ORTHO bug spray from HOME Depo. It lasts a long time. Spray her mattress on both sides and then get or tell her to get one of those plastic ZIP UP mattress covers. Then spray her carpet, your carpet and put a plastic zip up cover (like $ 5 at k-mart) on your mattress too.
Personally, I would tell her she’s going to have to get rid of that mattress and sleep on an air bed or something until she can afford a new mattress. They have good size air beds at k-mart for ($ 40), to put on the floor but it sleeps comfortably. I’d still cover your own mattress though so they can’t nest in your bed. Spray the hallways, room floors and everything real good.
I sprayed my studio place with that a year ago and have not had a live bug problem. Just saw a bug this am in the bathtub on it’s back, dying. That stuff lasts for twelve months, killing bugs inside the house and keeping them out. I sprayed the walls and everything, but cover your nose and mouth so you don’t inhale it. Heck, I sprayed my ceilings Wearing goggles! lol !!!
The good stuff is call HOME DEFENSE bug spray, less than $ 10.
Good luck.

Buy one of those bed bug covers. You can find them at Bed Bath & Beyond
