How do you get rid of bed bugs?

in Bedbug Questions

Question by c’est la vie:
How do you get rid of bed bugs?

My house is not dirty. I am a neat person, and this is why I was so in shock when I kept seeing tiny brown mite looking bugs crawling on my sheets. I have tried borax powder on the mattress and pest control spray around the room. Nothing seems to work, and I have had to stay in a hotel for the past two nights, which is getting expensive. I am so scared of bugs, and I don’t know what to do…

You have to get rid of your mattress, Sorry. And you probably want to get rid of all the ones in the house cause they like to travel

The thing about bed bugs is that you probably have them all over your house by now, and it has NOTHING to do with cleanliness. They come in on used furniture you may have bought, in your luggage from staying at a hotel/motel/condo, etc. or visiting a child in a dorm room. That said.. Pesticides shouldn’t be used around your bed. You should vacuum your mattress very well, in ever crease in crevice (where they hide!) and then put a sealable plastic cover around your bed. After you do that, wash all your clothes and bedding in HOT water (bleach if you can for very light and white colors) and vacuum the house. By staying in a hotel/motel you are just increasing your chances of bringing home MORE bedbugs and infesting other people with them.

Don’t forget to vacuum furniture in other rooms, too.

You might have to burn the mattress and get a new one. They are probably living inside the mattress.

They can also live in skirting boards, the bedframe, or any other dark crevice.
If the infestation is a bad one, professional help is best – otherwise buy a special insecticide for bedbugs, follow the instructions, and try to get rid of them yourself.

Home Depot now carries an aerosol insecticide specifically aimed at fleas and bedbugs. It is a pyrethrin based product so it is essentially harmless to mammals. Try that.
