What to do about bedbugs?

Question by jlm2261970:
What to do about bedbugs?

For the last week, I’ve been waking up with bites that feel a lot like misquito bites and think I may have bedbugs. If that’s the case, what can I do about them? Is it sufficient to just clean my apartment, vacuum my bed and wash my linens in hot water? Do I need to throw away my mattress and have an exterminator come in? There is a lot of different information out there and am not sure what to do.

The only real cure (and its still tough) is an exterminator. Bed bugs will hide in material, mattresses, clothing anywhere to avoid being found. Check the small cracks at the edge of your mattress for them and check the bed linnen for signs of blood… typically you will see blood if they are bed bugs and have eaten you… good luck but please call an exterminator…

try some bug bombs, it may be fleas, a good product to use on your bed is RID wash all your cloth items. make sure none of your pets have fleas.

Bedbugs are not an easy thing to get rid of. Vacuuming will not be sufficient. Generally speaking, they will breed/live on/around wood. Boxsprings, wooden framed beds, etc… not good.

You don’t need to throw away the mattress or anything (most likely… depending on how bad the infestation is)… but you do need to tackle the problem as soon as you can. Getting an exterminator is probably easiest, and most costly of course. You can get chemicals designed to kill the bugs, which you can apply yourself. Just remember to think about anywhere there can be wood around… and look in all the little ‘folds’ of the fabric of your mattress and things like that.

And yes you’ll want to wash your linens at the same time.

Good luck!
