Question by pockybunny:
If somebody living in my house has bed bugs, what are the chances they’ll get to me?

My sister noticed bugs in her bed, and says she has bites ob her neck and arms and stuff. I haven’t seen them, but I’m pretty sure they’re bed bugs.
Her room is in the basement, and my room is upstairs, what are the chances that the bugs will infest me?
NOOOO!!
what if she never comes into my room? she only goes upstairs to shower. she’s always out with friends. like always. does change anything??
i really don’t want bed bugs.

There’s a great risk of it happening. Throw out her mattress right away and wash all bedding in very hot water to kill the little pests. If you can afford it, hire a local pest control company to fumigate the house.

The bed bugs hide in the mattress and come out at night or early dawn to feed on blood.
Your body doesn’t harbor the bugs-the bed and covers do.
And, yes. They can be transported to other areas of the house.

Bed bugs travel all on their own. My daughter’s dorm at college got them on the bottom floor and by the next month they were everywhere. You need to throw away all mattresses, and wash EVERYTHING that is made of fabric. You need to bomb the house with an insecticide, and check all the wood for infestations. Her college didn’t get rid of them until all wood was thrown away and all of the mattresses. They now have all metal furniture, and vinyl mattresses. Good luck getting rid of those pesky buggers!
