i dont know if its illegal or not.. but they probably have the impression that your things are infested with bedbugs and dont want you moving your things there and infesting the apt… or maybe they think that you arent a clean person.but renters do have the option to choose their tenants… thats why they call your previous landlords to find out what type of tenant you are.

You CAN discriminate for any reason, except for race, religion, ethnic origin, color, sex, physical or mental handicap, or family status.

That is how you choose a tenant.

No, infested with bedbugs is not a protected class under the law.
