Do I have bedbugs or fleas in my bed?

in Bedbug Questions

Question by Brooke F:
Do I have bedbugs or fleas in my bed?

A few nights ago we noticed a couple little redish-brown bugs on our sheets. They are about the size of an ant. We were concerned there might be more so we pulled up the sheets and found about 10 others! My husband vacuumed them up and we haven’t seen them again. What kind of bugs are these and do I need to be worried that they’ll come back? I live in campus rental housing in Arizona if that makes a difference.

I would google some pictures to know for sure but they definitely were not fleas, fleas are black and the jump when you try to get them and they are really small- from the sounds it may be bed bugs. The pictures I saw of them they were a reddish-brown. Good Luck

What you describe sounds like a bed bug but you didn’t say you had any bites. Usually when you have bed bugs they bite you like crazy as they live on the blood. Vacuuming them is good but the only way to kill the ones in the mattress is to wrap the mattress, pillows in plastic to make sure the bugs can’t get out and then die. Bug bugs have made a come back and you find them a lot in rental properties. This is a good picture of one. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/medical/IM00966

Arizona has more bugs than any place Ive ever seen. I would recommend asking the question to an expert immediately. Take a picture for the experts and they usually answer quickly. For now, I would wash all your sheets or anything that may have got in contact with those bugs.

I agree..google bedbugs first. My wife & I moved into an apartment in AZ a couple of years ago. After about a month we had this rash on our legs. One morning my wife rolled over and there were these 2 flat round brownish red bugs under her that scurried off. We started googling the description and we had bed bugs!!! We were infuriated! It turns out that they came up from the apartment underneath us. The exterminator couldn’t get rid of us. We sprayed all of our stuff and packed it for our move. We didn’t see any after our move to our relief…but a few months later we had the same spots on our bodies as before. It turns out that these suckers are HARD to kill! We had brought them with us! We had to get a professional exterminator to treat our home several times, store things in plastic bags in a frozen storage for months….after 2 years we were finally fully rid of them!!

P.S. Fleas jump, bedbugs crawl. Fleas are smaller than ants.

Yep you have bed-bugs,my husband and I are really having a difficult time trying to get rid of these bed-bugs.They are like you said redish-brown in color.they stay in the corners of your mattress also in the corners of your bed sheets.they come at night time, they will also be behind your pictures that hang on your walls,in your carpets..anywhere its dark. You will need a special spray(poison) that will kill these bed-bugs and also their eggs.If you suck the bed-bugs into your vacuum, they will only crawl right out.The bed-bugs are pretty much round in shape and very flat (like a sheet of paper). If you just moved into your rental house, maybe they were already there before you came.Good luck..and remember you need a special spray(poison) to kill these bed-bugs.Its hard to rid of them..also good-luck in college!!!
