Can I use Vaseline to caulk the cracks and crevices in my bed against bed bugs?

in Bedbug Questions

Question by Maru:
Can I use Vaseline to caulk the cracks and crevices in my bed against bed bugs?

– I want to know if bed bugs can get through Vaseline (petroleum jelly).
– If they can’t, I’ll continue to fill the cracks and crevices of my bed with the jelly, to eliminate hiding places.
– If they can get through the jelly, what do you recommend for caulking these places?

(I’ve taken other measures as well, this is just one of many… so please no more tips on washing linen, getting a professional, using chemicals, etc.!)

Bed bugs don’t crawl through your walls. They live in your mattress. The best thing for you to do is to get a plastic mattress liner that zips around and seals your entire mattress.

If you want to caulk your walls, then go to the hardware store and get a tube of caulk.

Baking soda is another anti-bug treatment. It is not a chemical, and when the bugs try to eat it, the baking soda expands and the bugs explode.

If you are 100% sure that there is no bed bug in or on the mattress, pull the mattress over from the head board to keep a distance. Also put each frame leg in a tin can so that even if there are some bed bugs on the carpet, they cannot crawl up.

Using Vasline is a good idea, but i just cannot think myself being able to sleep on the bed with vaseline all over,,,,, nasty….

If you r bed is wood you have to take it apart to treat it.

A metal bed pulled away from the wall with the legs in cans of water with nothing touching floor will make your bed an island that they cannot reach. Matress and box springs encapsulated in plastic tape all zippers too.

Use all white linens and sleep in white too so you can see if they have been in your bed i.e. blood spots.
