Moved into an apartment it has bed bugs that aren’t from me can I break the lease legally?

I moved into this minnesota apartment a month ago and everything is breaking or doesn’t work and now there is bed bugs. Everything i brought was new and now I fear I have to throw them out since they are infested with bed bugs. I’m sick of this apartment and feel i have been misled on its condition. Is there any way I can break the lease legally?

Not likely, you may be able to have them exterminate them at their expense.

It’s doubtful that your landlord will let you completely out of your lease. You had a chance to inspect the property before you signed the lease.

You landlord may be able to make some kind of arrangement, like 2 months rent or something. Also, if you decide to move anyway, the landlord is responsible for trying to re-rent the unit and you are only responsible for the portion of the rent that he does not receive from the new tenant.

About the bed bugs, unfortunately they could have moved in with the new furniture. Google how to get rid of bed bugs. It’s a long process but you will need to do it, no matter where you live.
