Can bedbugs spread diseases such as HIV?

I’m staying in New York for the week and found that my apartment has bedbugs. They’re in the walls, the couch, the beds.. I just want to know if there’s any common diseases you can get from them because my friend staying with me says there is. More specifically, can they carry HIV?

Apparently not. Transmission of the HIV virus by blood sucking insects (mosquitoes, bedbugs, etc.) has been studied extensively.

According to research, Bedbugs can carry pathogens but they do not transmit them. Bedbugs are now being studied to find out what it is that kills the pathogens in Bedbugs’ guts.
