Question by moving:
should I not move to astoria, new york city because of bedbugs?

Astoria/ Queens has been ground zero for bedbugs in NYC and I have been having second thoughts about moving to astoria in queens because of the bedbugs. Should I move anyway and not let it bother me or think about moving to somewhere else?

Bugs do appear in pretty much any city I could move to and they have spread to manhattan anyway. Not like I could afford to live in manhattan anyway.

Please tell me what you think. Thanks.

No don’t bed bugs are nasty and expensive to get rid of. They’d have to spray your house and if it doesn’t work they have to heat your whole house to a certain degree that bed bugs won’t survive in. Move somewhere better and cheaper.

What do you think? Answer below.

Bedbugs can be found anywhere. The reason not to move to Astoria at this time is that it has become too popular and is overpriced. Find a less expensive neighborhood. I know, I live here.

Just keep your apartment super clean.
Disinfect the beds and linen with vodka , use jalepeno flavored , it will kill anything . As a matter of fact they use it on lepers

Lived in Astoria and battled the bed bug thing. Not sure if I brought them home from the hospital or was the Visiting Nurse the culprit …But it was terrible ..I woke up in the middle of the night and there were over 50 of those nasty things in my bed. I still think about it and it happened over 2 years ago. Luckily they never bit my newborn. If you really like Astoria you should still move just let management of the building know your concerned about bed bugs and ask them do they pay for exterminating.

If this helps check http://www.bedbugregistry.com to see if the building you plan on moving to is on the list.

There are better locations if you want to be in Queens than Astoria like Forest Hills or College Point or Bayside.

Astoria is only one part of Queens. Just go the next bit over. And plus Greenwhich Village and 4th Ave and East 14th Street is cheapish and thats in Manhattan.
