I scratch myself throughout the night tearing skin from various parts of my body. The reason that I know that my problem is bed bugs is I caught one this morning hhad a chance to dine on me. As I live on a limited income from Social Security, I need a relatively inexpensive remedy for my problem.

With all the resources we have and you say you live on social security. I also live on social security and that’s an excuse. Here’s what I would do if I had bed bugs is burn the sheets, put the mattresses out in the hot blazing sun and thoroughly clean and spray the room and if you need sheets, find a yard sale or garage sale or salvation army place that will sell you sheets for a couple bucks. Then get clean.

Bed bugs are pernicious and extremely difficult to get rid of once they are established.

Read the linked article I referenced in Sources and its recommendations, they are thoroughly thought through and I’ll save repeating them here except to say that you should make sure to treat with the appropriate insecticide (read the linked article) carpets, cracks in floor boards, furniture and baseboards. Treat mattresses (make sure to use the proper and safe insecticide). Small cracks are even better hiding places than mattresses themselves.

You will have to be diligent and unrelenting to get rid of those darn bugs.

Once thought a thing of the past until recently, bed bugs have made a come back in the USA, theoretically having been brought in with immigrant populations. They spread easily and infect homes of all income levels, so don’t feel bad if you are on Social Security and have them. My friends’ million dollar house is infested and they are having a terrible time getting rid of them.

Wash and dry all your clothing and bedding. High heat will kill them.

Pyrethrin based insecticides are safest for you and most effective on the bedbugs. Most kitchen bug sprays have pyrethrin. Besides the matress be sure you treat the carpet and cracks in floors, baseboards an even the headboard. A dust works best for getting in the cracks on woodwork and wood floors.
They are little blood suckers like ticks and fleas. I bet that carpet flea dust or seven dust would kill them. It is cheep!

You may also want to look at adding a chemical free contact killer spray to yoru resources just in case some fo the bedbugs you have are resistent to the chemcials that are mentioned – and the spray will be safer for you!

Some good ones are found online at kleen-free.com and work to dissolve the exoskeleton of the bedbug- you spray them and they shed their skin basically.

You can get premixed or concentrate version which will save you some money.

Good luck
