Yaletown is a very upscale “yuppie” “preppie” part of Vancouver. I have spent a lot of time in Yaletown and never once have I seen any problems. Yaletown is not particularly close to the downtown east side. That’s where the horror stories come from.

Yaletown is as safe as any part of a big city to walk at night. I’m a woman in my twenties and I’ve walked through Yaletown at night several times without any problems at all.

The Yaletown area is to the south of the Downtown Eastside area and is primarily new apartment buildings. It is unlikely you’d find any problems with bugs there.

Good luck!

i think the bed bug issue is downtown eastside and some parts of westend where there are older buildings. Yaletown is a newer area, new condos, clean streets, coffee shops, little boutiques, restaurants….its a nice place and i wouldnt feel under threat walking around there. Of course, you should be careful walking anywhere when its late at night and yaletown is no different. But generally its a safe area.
