Risk, YES, Personally, I would not purchase from Craigslist for such an item. In light of the epidemic of those nasty bugs, i’d be very leary,,, ( Buyer Beware ) There have been numerous complaints about Craigslist anyway, I say, save yourself some aggravation, Shop for floor models at reputable dealers, they are discounted and NEW>

Bed bugs are a problem even in the best of hotels in New York. It seems that every few days we hear of this. I was curious and went on YOU TUBE the other day to see all about them and what the people looked like after bitten. One doesn’t know when they are on a person sucking blood at night. I know that gives me a creepy feeling just thinking and writing this. But you will see several videos on this subject.

I would be leary of buying a couch on Craigslist. Have you tried a GoodWill store? They clean them up and sometimes re-upolster them to look good enough to sell at a great price.

Another place I found on the internet is in many states. It is called “freecycle”. Try to see if they are in your state or area. I have found many in my area and joined the one in my zipcode area or within 15 miles of it. They work like this. Someone posts they have something they want to give away. Others post things they need. Peoples needs and people wanting to give away good quality merchandise find each other and check to see if it’s what they want. Take someone with you if you are going to go to a house. Most people meet somewhere, such as the outside of a mall in the daytime, if an item is small.

Are there any kind of free papers in your community? If you find them in boxes all over town or in grocery stores, they list such items.

Another is a garage sale in an upper class area especially if someone sold their home and are moving.

Other papers are circulars that are thin or really large that charge under a $ 1. They have all sorts of classified in them.

No, I would not purchase any used furniture or appliance. Not only bed bugs, but roaches hide inside of appliances and furniture. You bring home more than you know when you purchase used.
