It’s the land lords obligation to treat you too because you are near those apartments.
Tell them you wish to be inspected and treated just in case.

Residents of infested apartments should be asked to buy special bed bug proof mattress covers and put them on mattresses and box springs after treatment. The covers trap any bed bugs hidden inside the mattress and box spring so that they can’t come out and bite. They will eventually die. The covers also prevent any new bugs from finding hiding places in mattresses and box springs.

Calling an exterminator is a good move. They are very hard to get rid of but a professional should be able to do it.

Lots of people who find that they have bedbugs wonder where the heck they got them from. There are a couple of common ways you can get an infestation:

1) Living in an apartment. Bed bugs often live or crawl in the spaces in between walls as well, and if your neighbors have them, you could as well. That also can make it harder for you to permanently get rid of them, since you’ve got a potential source until your neighbors take care of their own infestation.

Steam cleaning your mattress and using mattress covers will help prevent them.
