What kind of doctor specializes in STDs in men?
I’m having symptoms of either pubic lice or bedbugs, but either way, it sucks. I want a doctor to give me treatment advice, but I don’t have a general practitioner to visit. I am searching my health care plan’s website, but they require you imput a doctor’s specialty and I have no idea what kind would specialize in STDs.
Do I need a urologist? A family practicioner? A dermatologist? I’m at a loss.

A family physician would be just fine! You should not have to have a specialty doctor(ex. urologist, dermatologist) to treat STD’s! You can even visit your local health department or planned parenthood location.

Do you mean problems men have? like health? Or do you mean problems men have like psychologically?
Or finally do you mean you are having problems related to a male in you life?
If it is the first, (health), most internal medicine Doctors are quite good at all male health problems and can refer to a specialist if needed, have him start there.
If it is the second and he wants to deal with issues he’s having, a good psychologist or maybe even a psychiatrist can help. just check the phone book.
Finally if it is the latter and you want help with “ma in your life” problems, I’d try the psychologist. Again check the book and call around for one who deals with relationship problems.
your family doctor
your family doctor can deal with any type of STD to be honest. If the problem gets worse and gets into your bladder or you start to have problems with your kidneys or prostate, then you would probably be referred to a urologist. I think you have to go through your family doctor first anyway. You would have to go on antibiotics depending what type of STD you got and you would have to have blood work and swabbing done. Hope this helps. If you are embarassed, there are walk in clinics you can go to and they give you autonomous number so that its very confidential and private. Thats what i did in the past. Now i jsut see my family doctor b/c im over the embarassment and have come to terms iwth my lifelong std.

A family doctor would be the first place you’d start but be careful choosing your family doctor, I try too choose a family doctor that specializes in internal medicine. Regardless of what STD it is your speaking of, the family doctor will refer you too a doctor that specializes in your condition if it is something more serious. Example: If you have hepatitis or HIV you wouldnt see a family doctor, you’d see a gastrologist, hepatologtist, or internal medicine doctor, and they do have doctors that specialize primarily in infectious disease. For STD’S like HPV (genital warts) you could start at a family doctor and if the condition is advanced they most likely would send the patient, if a male, too a urologist, a female, too a gynocologist and both those medical specialties have great knowledge of all STDS.
In closure too this response, I’m very happy too see someone taking the mature, responsible steps too keep themselves safe and healthy regarding STD’S. When you do find yourself a doctor I hope you’ll consider getting tested for HIV and hepatitis C, both have no “i got it” symptoms, both are transmitted the same way (except for hep A) they both do their damage quietly, and don’t show themselves usually until its done significant damage. So many people are walking around out there and have no idea that they are infected. Thank you for being responsible. Best of luck too you.
