Question by Thalassaki:
What does bed bug sheddings or residue look like?

We saw black pieces of what looked like a thin shell of a bug, they were very little and on the edges of a mattress. The mattress was old, could these be left over from bedbugs? Thanks so much!

It’s possible. Bed bugs are small and dark brown. I suggest to look online for images of bed bugs and see if there is any resemblance between the pictures and what you found.

Bed bugs also leave a dark brownish reddish residue (from their feces) – if you see traces of that as well chances are you have/had bedbugs.

What do you think? Answer below.

small smudges on sheets, or very, very small grains of pepper. They are so small, they will filter through sheets and collect on mattress. This is the best place to check due to shear volume of material.
