Why is my dog constantly licking the floor?

in Bedbug Questions

Question by jsphny:
Why is my dog constantly licking the floor?

I had my apartment sprayed for bedbugs on Wed and took my dog to stay with my parents the night before. I picked him up on Saturday and on Sunday morning he was constantly licking the floor of the apartment and then throwing up. This seems to be a reaction to what was sprayed but I was told it was harmless to my pet (I was even told I could bring him back into the apartment after 4 hours!!) Has anyone had this problem?
I will call someone for help (It is Sunday and the vet is not in).
Thanks.

put your dog in another room and do not allow him in the kitchen; then mop the kitchen floor thoroughly with hot soapy water, and rinse with hot water.

use common sense; any strange pesticide no matter how “harmless” is not good for animals to ingest. if it were it wouldn’t kill bugs.

vets usually have emergency numbers if it is seriousl.

Maybe he thinks it smells good or might taste good so he’s licking or trying to eat it but when he realizes it’s not good for him, his nautral body tells him to throw up.

i think that your dog is licking the floor because of the new aroma of the house. it may be safe to smell it, but not eat it.

im not a professional, so to get a better answer, ask your vet ASAP.

hope i helped!

I have had this problem with both my dogs when we clean the kitchen floor, i just think its a natural thing for dogs to do?
I think they do it because its their way of finding out new things just like they do sniffing. You have done the right thing by thinking of the vet. just get an appointment and you should soon have your problem solved hopefully.
Sorry i couldnt be of more help
good luck

this happened with my dog, and it ended up being poisionous! i rushed him to the vet and he ended up ok. they gave him vanilla yogurt to treat his upset tummy. maybe you should try that.

My dog licks the floor and the carpet sometimes also. We really don’t know why but someone once told me that due to the incedible taste sensory of the dog they can smell and taste things from long ago therefore they might be thinking that they are tasting somthing youstepped on last week. Or dogs are just nuts.
