Question by eyinpcb:
If I move out of an apartment with bed bugs, will I take them with me?

My bedroom is infected with bed bugs. They came and sprayed on Thursday, today is Sunday and I’m still waking up with new bites. They’ve offered to move me to a different building, but how do I know I’m not going to bring all the bed bugs with me?

You have to make sure to have everything cleaned throughly as it’s leaving the infested apartment and before it goes into the new place. You may even have to through out somethings that can’t be cleaned properly.

Ooh, I have a great safe product to get rid of those. My friend was having problems and we sprayed her house. They are gone. She sprays about every two weeks and washes with the laundry detergent as well. So far all has been good.

Before you move, you most soak all your bed linen in Hot Hot water. Add bleach to the water. Hot dry. You must wash down your bed frame with the same liquid. And you must wash down the mattress and the blankets and the quilts. After you move, by the bed bug spray in the housewares store. Spray at least once a week. Good Luck.

Bed bugs are simple to deal with if you are willing to put forth some effort.

You did the first step, you sprayed.

Wash ALL bedding and pillows in hot water. Dry on warm to hot setting.

Vacuum the bed. Not just the top, but the sides, and bottom.

Inspect the bed to see if there are any nests, and vacuum those up. Vacuum all around where the bed is.

Once you do all that, you may want to consider, if you are moving, to have your mattress covered in plastic and sealed. That way any surviving bed bugs can’t really get to you.

Bed bugs also tend to come out about an hour before daybreak (how they know the time is beyond me 🙂 ). If you are willing, you can use a flashlight to try to figure out where they are coming from, to see if maybe there is a nest somewhere you didn’t find.

May be easier to do that then move, but that’s a person decision.

Good luck, and hope you get your infestation cleared out. But key thing is vacuum your bed completely and wash all bedding, even pillows, in hot water.
