Mom got bit by bed bugs at sister’s house. Am i wrong to not let her stay with me now?

My mom was visiting my sister in L.A, and got totally attacked by bed bugs. She was supposed to drive to Phoenix today to stay with me for a week. When she told me about the BBs I told her she could not come. She seemed a little put out. Am i buying into the hype and overreacting? I hear they are very expensive to get rid of and that they can drive people crazy with frustration and anxietey.

as long as she thoroughly cleans her things and washes herself off they shouldn’t transfer. I was getting bites all over and I thought that I had some type of bug from the barn transfer to my bed and all it took was washing my sheets and clothing and thoroughly vacuuming and the bites stopped appearing and were soon gone. I understand your vantage point, but I understand why she would feel put out as well… she probably wanted to see you. maybe reschedule? have her bring a different set of clothes and in a different bag and it really shouldn’t be a problem. I hope I helped.

As long as she and her stuff are thoroughly cleaned, you shouldn’t get the bed bugs; let her stay with you until your sister gets it taken care of.

Bedbugs can travel on luggage, shoes, clothing, and human beings. So can their eggs. Even if your mom washes all her clothing in hot water and dries it on high heat in the dryer, there’s still the chance that the second and third generation of bedbugs can appear from eggs the first ones laid.

My advice: Tell your mom to research how to get rid of any possibility of bedbugs on her clothing and belongings, and then wait to make sure no new ones appear. If after a couple of months she’s completely free of them, then you can invite her to come visit.

It’s all too true that getting rid of them is frustrating and expensive, and very difficult to accomplish.
