is there anyway to prevent bedbugs when you’re traveling?

i’m going to be going on a trip around california and some of europe. i am TERRIFIED of bedbugs. is there anyway to prevent them? i’ve heard of mattress casings and stuff like that, but i’m wondering if anyone has any other advice. thanks!

Checking the bedding and mattress upon entering the room is your best defense. Look at all the creases and underneath the mattress. Check for the black spotting marks or for the lil critters running. Also you could look your hotels up on www.bedbugregistry.com see if they are listed. Just keep in mind it is possible for a hotel to only have the problem in a few rooms and not be listed. So even if they aren’t listed still check the beds & furniture in the room before unpacking.
