can you sue the landlord for medical bills, reimbursement of rent for the time spent in the apartment/cost of moving out of the complex?
can you sue the landlord for medical bills, reimbursement of rent for the time spent in the apartment/cost of moving out of the complex?

it was a furnished apartment so the landlord provided the furniture that is housing the bedbugs
we wash our linens, no pets, and this started from day one so dont blame us as the cause for the bugs.

Bedbugs are transmitted and carried by humans only. They are not caused by unsanitary conditions that you landlord can be held responsible for.

Hotels can be sued etc because there not changing or washing bedding correctly can allow the bedbugs to stay.

You bed linen adn who you allow in you bed is your problem, not your landlords

Sorry, but bed bugs are not a “building” issue, they are a “people” issue. You can spray the building all you want but it is people that transmit the bed bugs. If your apartment was clean when you moved in and after you got there (several months later) you found the bed bugs then it is highly likely a member of your family brought them into your home. If you all move out and spray and then move back in, you will simply bring them back with you.

You need to stop thinking the landlord has to do something and start doing it your self. Start by washing every piece of clothing and linen in the house. Inspect your bodies. Wipe off all of the beds and make sure none of the bugs are present. Vacuum the floors, if you can afford it, have Stanley Steamer come in and steam clean the carpets.

(If you live in a warm climate and have a dog, you may have a flea problem, not bedbugs. In that case all you have to do is put a flea collar on your dog.)

Read your lease contract and check what it says about repairs or pest control. If your contract provides that the landlord is liable for it then you may sue. Otherwise, the obligation devolve upon you to remove the bugs.
