If your coworker totes along a bedbug in her bag, and she puts it on the floor, and your bag is nearby, the bedbug can make its way into your bag.

Same with yoga class.

There was recently a news article about children bringing their bookbags to school, picking up bedbugs that crawled over from other kids’ bookbags, and infesting the children’s homes.

One bedbug brought home? No problem. Well, unless it is a female ready to lay eggs. Then, you can seemingly have an infestation overnight!

Bedbugs like to nest in dark cracks and crevices. In addition to the tufts and seams in mattresses, bedbugs like to nest behind headboards, behind picture frames, in clothing and bedding, in tufts and seams in furniture, in dark corners of drawers, and in luggage and bags.

Some tips:
Always keep your purse or any bags containing personal items off the floor. When travelling, always keep your suitcase on a luggage rack, and not on the floor. This will not guarantee that bedbugs won’t make their way into your home, but it will dramatically decrease your chances.
