Why have there been so many cases of bedbugs the last few years?

I hear older people, like people over 50, talking about bedbugs in their time, and people have been reporting on a lot of cases over the past few years, but it seems like they almost disappeared between these 2 generations. Are we having more cases than we used to or are they just reporting on them more?
