Can you acquire bedbugs from using a shared washer and dryer in an apartment building?

Question by Josh: Can you acquire bedbugs from using a shared washer and dryer in an apartment building?
If so, how do people avoid acquiring them? I see all these articles that tell people who have bedbugs to wash their clothes in hot water. But most of these infestations take place in apartment buildings. For someone who DOESN’T have them, how do they avoid coming in contact with them if they have to share the same laundry facilities?

I really doubt it. The drying process(heat) would kill them…

No, the heat will kill them. Same way with lice – high heat kills the bugs.

To be sure to avoid transfer, I would wash in the hottest setting and dry on high heat.

Buy your own washer and dryer.

You can get bed bugs from a shared dryer if it is a gas dryer, they live in gas dryers… I myself am trying to find out if they will travel and live through a washer… I have had them in the past, i got them from shared laundry facilities, they traveled from the dryer, (gas dryer) in my clothes, into my apartment, thats also where i found them first that time folding my laundry…
