first – is it really bed bugs? Bed bugs leave a lot of crap behind… like red stains on the edges of the mattress… they are hard to find themselves, but their mess is easily identified… (google it).
If it is, call an exterminator – not much in the line of household cleansers will get rid of them. Also, they hide ANYWHERE in the room so you probably won’t get them directly with a fogger or bug spray (never mind mess your kids up with chemicals!!)

If not bed bugs.. figure out what it is… go with andwer #1 🙂

Getting Rid of Bed Bugs-Once an infestation has occurred, patience and persistence is the key to ridding the area of bed bugs. It isn’t enough to clean the mattresses and launder the sheets. Furniture should be overturned and cleaned. Carpeting, wood molding, door jambs, picture frames, and closets should be inspected as well. Bed bugs can hide behind loose wallpaper, in the crevices between carpets and walls, behind outlet covers, and inside light fixtures, smoke detectors, and even clocks. Removable, washable items can be laundered in very hot water. For those areas or items which can not be laundered, smaller items can be wrapped in plastic and set in a hot place or in direct sunlight. The key is to raise the temperature to at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit for several hours to kill the eggs and the bugs. Vacuuming and steam cleaning may also be done, but any bags or canisters should be thrown away or emptied outside of the area immediately to prevent another infestation. The best method of removing bed bugs, however, is through a professionally handled treatment.
Don’t Try These Methods-Finally, there are several methods that are totally useless and shouldn’t even be considered. Bug bombs and aerosol pesticides will not rid an area of bed bugs. While extreme hot and cold temperatures may affect the infestation, below freezing temperatures will only work if those temperatures remain below freezing for over two weeks.

You will have to hire a professional exteminator. They are very hard to get rid of. Your kids could have picked them up at school.

hire a pest control, DO NOT SLEEP IN THAT ROOM UNTIL THE BUGS ARE REMOVED.

1) Wash all your bedding in the hottest water possible.
2) Spray your bed with Lysol until it’s slightly damp.
3) Bed bugs don’t like fresh air so let the bed air out all day giving Lysol both the time to dry and destroy the bugs.
4) Purchase white a mattress cover that has a rubber type material that lays against the mattress and a cloth like material that lays against the sheets. This will kill everything on the mattress (don’t forget, to do the same on the other side of the mattress).
5) Wash your mattress cover weekly using the hottest water possible and a little bleach.

PS. You’re purchasing a white mattress cover so you can use bleach.
