Law depends on your state and your lease, but I would send a letter to the landlord immediately, notify them of the bed bugs (are you sure that’s what it is & not fleas) and ask if you can switch to the other apartment. Did you see that one already & know that it is okay?
Read your lease – what are the circumstances under which you can break your lease & what are the costs? Also search tenant rights and your state to find out what extra protection the law gives you.
You will probably get more specific feedback if you say what state you are in (and FYI New York City has more rights than NY State does, so sometimes it makes a difference what city you are in).
Call the health department and report the bed bug infestation – the landlord may not rent it till its cleared by HD.
Tell your landlord who should take care of the problem.
yes. take pictures. don’t move in, you will regret it. tell them you won’t live there. they are very hard to get rid off…ypou will have to bag your clothes, spray and repeat every week. they will get into your furniture. then landlord will say you brought them with you.
