From http://hotels.about.com/od/hotelsecrets/a/bed_bugs.htm

“What can you do to avoid bed bugs?

“Look around. They are large enough to see. Look particularly under the mattress and in the seams, in and around the bedframe, and along any cracks or peeling paint in the wall or picture frames. Check in the cracks of any wooden furniture, particularly antiques. You can also spot their droppings, which may be tinged with blood.”

If you see any signs of them, demand to talk to the desk manager immediately.

From http://www.pestworld.org/Consumer/PressRelease.asp?ReleaseID=39

“At hotels, pull down the bed covers at night. If you see something moving, or if you see spots on the sheets, move to another room or switch hotels.”

Research the hotel you are staying at for complaints. It may cost a little extra. But it’s worth it to not have those disgusting little things eat you alive and bring them back home to infest your house. It will cost thousands to kill them.

And it’s not just a NYC problem. They are everywhere.

Try vaccuming your mattress and then contacting an exterminator for advice on a good chemical solution to spray or mist your mattress with. This should help alot.

Take care!!
