Do washing machines kill bedbugs?!?

in Bedbug Questions

Question by advicemom:
Do washing machines kill bedbugs?!?

Okay, I went into the laundry room of my apartment complex, and I saw what I thought was a (dead?) bedbug on the top of one of the washing machines. I was unable to do my laundry out of fear of somehow bringing the pests into my apartment, but now I really need to do some washing. I looked around online and made sure what I saw was a bedbug but none of the treatment info I have found says whether or not the washing machine kills them. Does anyone know? I REALLY don’t want to get them but I need clean clothes….
Bed bugs are NOT dust mites, they are making a comeback with all the international travel and obviously someone in my apartment complex has them, not me, did you even read my question??!

Well if you dropped one on a bed bug I’m sure if it was able to fall flush to the floor it would kill one?

Bedbugs are called dust mites and you usually can’t see them with the naked eye. Whatever you saw, I don’t think it was a bedbug.

What kinds of things do you have in your bed anyway? *GASP!

I think they would have drowned in the washing process, but if your really concerend maybe Bleaching the machine before you put your laundry in might make you feel better.
