Can you get bed bugs by staying over in someone’s bed?

Question by Michele:
Can you get bed bugs by staying over in someone’s bed?

I am seeing this guy and I THOUGHT I saw a bug in his bed this morning. It looked like a picture of a bed bug i have seen before and I got freaked out. Is it easy to carry them home on me? I don’t even know if it was a bedbug, but I really don’t want to risk carrying them back to my apartment.

(If it IS bedbugs, I really like this guy, what am I going to do??)

Yes you can and they are very hard and expensive to get rid of. I would not take any clothes back to your house and take a shower just before leaving and changing into brand new clothes or clothes from you house that someone else brings you in a plastic bag. Alternatively, you could wash the clothes you have in hot water and hope that does the trick. If you get them home you are looking at hundreds if not thousands of dollars of expense to rid yourself of them.

What do you think? Answer below.

I think its easy to carry bed bugs, but i thought they only came out in the dark, so may not be one if you saw it in the morning.
But i would pull the sheet back and look in the side of the mattress, if its full of dark blobs, or living bugs, i would tell him.

They are VERY hard to get rid of, and very expenisve to get rid of. The guy you like is dirty, lets face it. You deffinatly should deffinatly be catious if your going to keep seeing him. I wouldnt bring any of the cloths I wore the back to my house, I would probably just throw them into his garbage. Make sure you WASH YOUR ENTIRE BODY before leaving his house. Bed bugs stick to your clothing and your skin, thats how the get into your house and mattresses. I would deffinatly follow these instrucions.

1.) Tell him that you “saw” a bug in his mattress and you aren’t to sure what it is

2.) Hop in the shower and WASH YOUR ENTIRE BODY VERY GOOD!

3.) Throw out the cloths you wore there

4.) Put on FRESH CLOTHS BEFORE LEAVING!

5.) Before you leave his house, make sure you don’t see anything on your fresh new cloths so they can’t get into your car

5.) When you get home, clean your house just in case.

6.) Alert whoever you live (if you live with someone) about the situation

7.) GOOD LUCK!:p

Unfortunately bedbugs are very easy to transplant from one location to another, they can be brought home in suitcases, dirty laundry, or just about any other article that has been exposed.

However there is no need to panic, it’s not the end of the world… They can be difficult to get rid of once they become established, but there are a few things that you can do…

1) Your friend really has to know as soon as possible, there can be some health concerns.
2) This is by no means an indication that your friend is dirty…
3) You should strip the bedding and wash the sheets, pillowcases, etc… Use a normal amount of bleach in the wash…
4) It is true that bed bugs don’t like sunlight, The mattress should be moved into the sunlight (preferably outdoors) and left for a few hours… The buggies should vacate… For carpet, you can try many of the cedar spray remedies or possibly moth balls… Be sure to check frequently for the next month or so…

If none of this works, then I suggest you speak to the maintenance staff at one of your local motel/hotels… They routinely have bedbugs and they don’t spend thousands to get rid of them in order to pass inspections…

In reality you have likely been exposed to bedbugs more than once in your lifetime, especially if you have ever stayed in a motel/hotel…

Yes, you can get bedbugs by staying in a house or sleeping in a bed that has bedbugs.

This is what a bedbug looks like.
