Question by tennchic01:
How do I proceed in requesting compensation from a company that sold me furniture infested with bedbugs?

I bought a couch and chaisse back in March. I never had a problem with bedbugs. I never really knew they actually were a problem. My sister who sleeps on the couches started to have red bumps on her body. I honestly thought it was a staph infection. All of the sudden the red welts started appearing on me. I was thinkin the whole house had staph infections. Never in my wildest dreams did i think bedbugs. They arent common out here. So one day I was sitting on my chaisse and there was one crawlin on me. OMG i freaked…I looked it up on the internet and figured WE HAD A BEDBUG problem. I dont travel. I have been living in these apts for a few months and there were no bedbugs. But as soon as I got the furniture we had these problems I described above. Am I able to lodge a complain to the store I bought it from. Am I entitled some type of compensation?? cause i seriously cant sleep at nite. I wanna just throw my furniture out but it is brand spankin new and I spent $ 600+ for it! THe apartments are paying for extermination but I know that they arent just goin to die overnite..I have small kids and I have to live here. What is my next course of action?

It could be many reason why you got bedbugs. If you bought the furniture and didn’t have a problem till later, then it already accumulated a lot of bugs and the more people use the couch, it is reasonable to say that it has bed bugs too from all the dead skin.

I suggest to throw it away before it gets worst. If you have pets in the house, it may have contributed as well.

As far as suing the company where you bought the merchandise from, I believe that they will ask you why you have not returned the merchandise or even close to reporting it to them.

I don’t think you will have a case on this one.
