Question by Gina:
Apartments with bed bugs, who pays for treatment?

Since bed bugs are such a serious problems now and so expensive to treat, who pays?? Is it the responsibility of the landlord or the tenant?? Technically it is not the landlord who lives there and brings them in. On the other hand it is their building. Legally who is responsible??

Pest control usually falls under the landlord’s responsibility. But be careful if the reason you have bed bugs is because you don’t keep the place up that could be cause for eviction.

In most states, bedbugs are a tenant responsibility, unless you can somehow prove that YOU did not introduce the pests to your premises. Bedbugs are extremely mobile creatures. You can bring them in unwittingly by simply sitting on the sofa or bed of a friend who has an infestation. The same applies to an overnight stay in an infested hotel room. You will need to investigate the laws of your city/state relative to any established responsibility. If nothing exists along that line, I’d suggest you trying to work out something with your landlord.

Apartments that are subject to many people that are dirty usually have this problem. it is the complex problem, but then again the entire complex probably has them as well. technically you can pay to have your place fumigated and deduct it from your rent–with the consent of the manager, but if your neighbor has the same problem youd end up with bed bugs again.
my suggestion: find a cleaner place to live.
