Bedbugs! How to get rid of them?

in Bedbug Questions

Question by Jessica P:
Bedbugs! How to get rid of them?

My boyfriend and I have been doing a lot of traveling, and we think we brought home bedbugs from one of our trips. Where we live, we know it is common to have bedbugs, but we need some help to stop them!

We have done A LOT of research, and have been living with the bedbug problem for nearly 2 weeks! I have been getting eaten alive, and my boyfriend suffers minorly (we know that males tend to not show a reaction quite as bad as females do).
This is a serious problem!
We have invested in a “dust mite” mattress cover, and have purchased covers for the pillows. We will be getting one for the futon soon.
We had the exterminator in the house the other day, and he lazily sprayed around and checked the bed area(s) and said that it was unlikely for them to travel through the carpets.
We know they are laying eggs, at least one batch has probably already hatched.
We have sprayed the rooms with “Pronto: bedbug and dust mite” spray several times… no luck.
What should we do! If we move, we will take the bugs to the new place!
should we bag up all the clothing, and wash them?
Vacuum the house?

I am desperate! We have been losing sleep to this infestation!

i dont know much about them,
but id say you should wash all your clothes and bedding in boiling water, then call in an exterimator willing to spray absouletely everything down!

good luck

oh wow, thats horrible making me itch thinking about it!! gosh i hope u figure it out soon!!! i honestly havent heard much about bed bugs i do not know if these sites will even help but the first thing that comes to my mind is to get checked out and make sure it is not scabies, i had a friend whos dr said she had bed bugs and a month later after no help said they had scabies!! traveling a lot would make ur chances higher to get them im sure, i do not know for sure again, but i have read somewhere that u can see bedbugs it was either at night if u use a flashlight or in the mornings, sorry like i said im not much help, heres a site to check out scabies and see if that may be it, only a dr can diagnose it though, btw i would try taking benedryl to sleep and help with the itching at night for a while till u get it taken care of!! god luck to you both… http://www.medlineplus.com

So sorry to hear about this problem! Here’s a link that may be somewhat helpful. It’s from UC Davis. You might also try calling your country government to see if they have an agricultural department that can give you any advice. Good luck!
