What do I do if my dog’s bed gets bed bugs?

in Bedbug Questions

Question by Jessica:
What do I do if my dog’s bed gets bed bugs?

Lately my dog has been sleeping out of his bed.. I think it might have bed bugs in it.

Could I just wash his bed cover, or do I have to buy a new bed for him?
And I am not blonde.

I don’t know if the bed bugs are in the entire bed or just the cover.

can you tell if they’re in the actual pad or if they’re just between the cover and the pad? i guess you could wash it, but it seems smarter to just buy a new one.

Probably wood ticks, get dog treated and spray the bed. The carry disease.

You can possibly look down in the crevices and see if you see any bedbugs. There could be fleas too – have you looked closely at your dog’s skin? Is he scratching?

I would wash it at the laundrymat and see if he still has a problem. You have to wash cover and cushions too, not just the cover. Maybe it’s just uncomfortable or worn out and he’s tired of it.

I would just get a new bed. That would make sure that there are no bugs in it.

No. If the dogs bed has bed bugs BURN IT or put it in a plastic bag and throw it out. Clean the entire area where the bed was. If he had a pillow, a cloth toy or blanket that the bugs can embed in, toss it! Washing does not kill the eggs or all the eggs. Does the dog sleep in your bed? If so, strip your bed, spray it down with bleach and get the same thing you would get for treating lice and treat your bed and bedding as recommended by your vet. You will have to re-treat in two weeks . To check for bed bugs, take a piece of white paper and black paper and set it down on the dogs bed. Wait a minute and look to see if you notice anything on there, sort of like lice look. If they are young they will show up on the dark paper and if adult they will show up as dark on the the light paper. I would even toss my mattress if there were bug on it. It’s too hard to get rid of otherwise, imo.
