How does a person get bed bugs?

in Bedbug Questions

Question by Jessica Rabbit:
How does a person get bed bugs?

Do they have to come on a person who comes into your home? Can they come into your apartment like roaches? I seem to have them, and i can’t figure out how they got in my apartment 🙁

They hitchhike on luggage, or clothing. You or somebody who has visited you, carried them in. If you live in an apartment complex, they may well have migrated from another unit. They’re not easy to get rid of. I’d suggest getting a pro.

The bugs go from apartment to apartment through the walls.
The are crawling under the baseboards and through the electric outlets.

Bed bugs can move from an apartment next door, above or below your unit. Research shows that there is a 20% chance that they will come from an apartment next door and a 7% chance that they will come from an apartment over or below yours.

They can also, of course, be spread by a person who has a bed bug hiding on their clothing or luggage.
