Can you give someone Bed Bugs or Scabies by kissing them?

Question by John V:
Can you give someone Bed Bugs or Scabies by kissing them?

last week I came back from a 3 night field trip in Upstate New York. When I came back I was covered in red bumps. Four other people that were on the field trip also got it. I went to the doctors and they said it was Bed Bugs but they were going to treat it like it was scabies just in case. The problem is my girlfriend is coming over today and I don’t want to give them to her so I was wondering if I could give it to her by kissing?

Scabies are very contagious and it is best to refrain from contact physically till you have been treated and your home sanitized properly. I am not sure if he gave you a prescription for permethrin which is what they use to treat scabies. Often they do a follow up treatment a week later. Even though they wouldn’t be on your lips, it is hard to kiss someone without placing your hands on their back or holding someone. This would not be a good idea till you had been treated. Bed bugs are not spread the same way, but it sounds like your doctor is unsure of what it was.
