What has started this national outbreak of bedbugs I keep reading about?

Best answer:

Answer by My ocean is full of BP OIL!
I blame Al Queda Terrorists or the Economy! Think about it- people have less money and stay at cheaper motels- transfer more bed bugs!
We always have had them though( in society) they just were not as popular as they are now-!

The professional community is torn here. Many believe that Bedbugs are back in the US (we pretty much wiped them out in the 50s with products like DDT) because international travel has increased expeditiously since the late 1990. The borders opened up in Eastern Europe and many people are migrating from Central and South America, all regions with Bedbug problems.

The other side thinks it is either directly or indirectly related to the move that the pest control industry made toward the more environmental approach (Integrated Pest Management IPM) in the late 80’s). Currently most pest management professionals do not randomly apply liquid pesticides without good reason. Years ago, exterminators would spray everything as that was the belief. Some people feel that that constant application of pesticide kept many pest populations to a minimum and one of those pests is Bedbugs.
