You can get a plastic mattress cover for @$ 30 depending on your mattress size at most places like Walmart and Target. The bed bugs can’t get out that way, and if you want to kill them off as well as keep them from escaping the mattress and into the bedding, before you zip up the cover, hold it open and spray lots of Raid into the top area, flip the mattress over and hold the bottom open, then spray more into the bottom area between the cover and the mattress. Zip up the cover and keep it on for at least a month, the bugs should die out and you will be protected from the Raid by the plastic cover.

be sure that you get a waterproof plastic/vinyl cover.

Gross! Try keeping your home clean and washing your sheets or you will need to just buy a new bed.

Hire a steam cleaner, or buy one. give your mattress a good going over, and keep going over it for about an hour, so the steam penetrates really deep, turn it over, and do the same the other side. You will have to fumigate the rest of the house too.

How to control bed bugs

The first step in control is to eliminate the possibility of bed bugs physically climbing over a mattress or bed to feed. Pull the bed away from shelving or the wall and coat the legs of the bed with a band of Vaseline or mineral oil with a band about 2 inches wide. Use effective means to prevent or exclude bed bugs from the sleeping area. This could include keeping a zone around the bed “bed bug-free” by careful examination and removal of bed bugs with a stiff brush and vacuum and by caulking cracks and by placing a barrier of chalk or silica aerogel around the bed posts at floor level. Double-sided carpet tape may be effective in trapping bed bugs and excluding them from sleeping areas. Clear sticky tape is a good way to capture individuals for later identification.

Question: How do you kill bed bug eggs? Do all these spray on products work?

Answer: Most insect eggs are safe inside a shell or chorion which protects them from pesticides. Bed bug eggs hatch in about one to three weeks depending upon the temperature. This would mean a follow up inspection after three weeks would be a good idea. Most residual pesticides last for one month; so theoretically, there should be pesticide still active to kill bed bug nymphs as soon as they hatch from eggs.

if you keep having the problem you need to do more than just seal the bed i helped debug a house with a bed bug problem and we had to seal EVERYTHING in plastic with this powder to kill them. clothes, dressers, everything then we ripped up the carpet and painted the walls. this may seem extreme but it is really hard to rid a house of bed bugs. they will lay their eggs everywhere. good luck:)

Throw the mattress out!!! Bed bugs are different to dust mites, which can be contained with mattress protectors and the like.

Throw it out or even better, burn it!
